MESA, Arizona – In the 11th annual Golfweek's Best Courses, the editors of Golfweek magazine named Longbow Golf Club to its list of "2009 Golfweek's Best Resort Courses."
"We are thrilled and honored to receive recognition from Golfweek," said Jay Larscheid, General Manager. "I think we all knew that Longbow would garner accolades such as this, and it's truly gratifying to have agreement from one of the golf world's most influential publications. We've simply stayed focused on our pledge to our guests to provide the highest standards in terms of service and playing conditions. It's obvious that this formula has paid off."
Longbow was ranked 89 out of 100, which, at first glance may seem a bit dubious. However, when one considers the caliber of golf clubs placed further up the list – Pebble Beach, Pinehurst, Whistling Straits, to name a few – it's clear that Longbow has earned a place among golf's elite resort courses.

The Reserve Club at St. James Plantation in Southport, N.C., a Nicklaus Design featuring Michael Nicklaus as lead designer, was named the "Best New Course in North Carolina" for 2006 by the 130-member North Carolina Golf Panel. Michael Nicklaus, designed The Reserve Club Course to be traditional in nature, enjoyable and playable for Members and their guests, but also challenging for even the most accomplished players.
The par-72, 7,212-yard course was built through acres of wetlands, features A1 bentgrass greens, bunkers with predominantly grass faces rather than high sand faces, and areas of mulch and bark in and along the edges of tree lines. Each hole is set off on its own and is surrounded by either wetlands, water, thick trees or underbrush, so if you miss a fairway you likely lose a ball. And there are several carries over wetlands or water.
The course measures 4,925 yards from the forward tees and has a course rating of 75.2 and slope of 140 from the tips.
The golf panelists rated The Reserve Club on routing, flow, design, strategy, fairness, memorability, condition, variety, aesthetics and the experience of the round. The panel also selected the top 100 golf courses in the state for 2007 and the The Reserve Club debuted at No. 39. Pinehurst and Old North State are the top two courses in a state with nearly 600 courses.
The Verdict: The par-72 layout offers enough tees to accommodate players of all skill levels. Like its three sister courses, this one likewise navigates through coastal marine and wildlife habitats, and is challenging while visually impressive. The backdrop is classic coastal NC landscape of tall pines and hardwoods, marshland and creeks.
